Smashing the Parenting-Career Dilemma

Roshni Dhananchayan is out to prove that caring for young children and excelling in a career is no longer a dilemma for women, relegating the notion that having kids impedes career progression to myth.

She is tackling the critical dilemma many women face between career ambitions and childcare, with Parenthood Global—a groundbreaking platform that equips parents with the tools and support they need to thrive in both spheres

Roshni is the founder of Parenthood Global, a platform that offers educational resources on parenting through webinars, workshops, events and even the ability to form clubs for parents within organisations or communities to share support and resources for those entering parenthood.

Employing a cadre of 14 employees, Roshni is adamant that Parenthood Global revolutionises this phase for new parents across Sri Lanka—particularly those balancing the neonatal phase with their demanding careers.

Becoming a new parent is admittedly scary, Roshni laughingly agrees. Studies have incidentally found that being a new parent bodes chemical and structural changes in the human brain, warranting almost completely new motivations and skills. Roshni claims that this particular enthusiasm drove her to start Parenthood Global during her first pregnancy in 2021 when she organised an online session for more than 40 people, both warily concerned and interested in insights on new parenthood.

Her last event, Mom Leaders, which saw over 400 participants and the involvement of 45 Sri Lankan corporates, was meant to ensure that more women returned to work and received support to raise their children. From the addition of creche facilities, and daycares to Human Resource policies that favour new mothers and fathers alike, it was an event that recognized that parenthood has indeed changed, Roshni recalls.

Roshni expresses that talks of her venture expanding out of Sri Lanka into India are already underway. Her work has since expanded into parenting adolescents and young adults, aiming to understand the critical periods marred by overprotectiveness, or sometimes even neglect. Being in the space of critically looking at parenting and providing resources on psychological and social advice makes Parenthood Global one of a kind.
