Sustainability and social impact drive Upeka Tharindi Thilinimali, a young entrepreneur making significant strides in eco-conscious business solutions. Through her ventures, Ample and Bio Lanka, Upeka is transforming industries with a focus on reducing waste and empowering rural communities.
As the founder of Ample, Upeka has repurposed over 5,000 kilograms of surplus factory fabric into premium-grade yarns, setting a new benchmark for sustainable fashion in Sri Lanka. It offers a wide range of women’s clothing, from formal to casual wear, including designs that cater to plus-size requirements. Initially a B2B wholesaler, Ample has expanded to online B2C sales with physical outlets in Sri Lanka and aims to enter international markets. Currently, Ample exports to Seychelles, the UAE, several African nations, and Mauritius.
Her commitment to eco-friendly practices extends to Bio Lanka, where she co-founded an initiative that modernizes agriculture and construction. By integrating solar-powered technologies, advanced farming techniques, and eco-friendly container homes, Bio Lanka supports traditional rural farmers while serving both international and local markets.
According to Upeka, Bio Lanka’s efforts have resulted in a 30% increase in crop yields and a 25% reduction in water usage. Additionally, Bio Lanka Homes has introduced housing solutions that cut energy consumption by 35% and reduce carbon footprints by 15%.
