What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Peaty Islay malts on a cold day with old friends

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
WTF!

On what occasion do you lie?
Rarely now, but mostly to be nice

Who or what is the greatest love of your life?
My wife, Shamistha, and my kids

What do you dislike most about your appearance?
My lack of it! And my bulging belly

What is your most marked characteristic?
Yelling at people I love

What is your most treasured possession?
The love of a wonderful family and my faith in God

What is your natural talent?
I’m reasonably articulate and can write letters

To be able to fly a float-plane

Fine wool suits and silk ties. Silly though.

One more Christmas with my mother

To be a better father, husband, brother and manager

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Making it through a trekking and mountaineering course in the Himalayas where all the other participants were career mountaineers and mountain guides

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Drink a cup of coffee or green tea

What was one of your life-changing moments?
Being away from home for a year at the age of 17 and climbing to an altitude of 17,000 feet in the Himalayas

If you could eliminate one weakness or limitation in your life, what would it be?
Get fitter

When you’re 90 years old, what will matter most to you?
Won’t get there; but if I do, not being incontinent would be very important!

What life lesson did you learn the hard way?
Hard work alone won’t always cut it – you need a bit of luck too, and to be in the right place at the right time

What was your favourite food as a child?
Doughnuts and ‘Matches’ from P&S, hotdogs from Fountain Cafe

What inspires you?
My daughters and sons. They’re awesome!
